Senior Lead: Machine Design & Industrial Automation M/F

Responsibilities

Machine Design Engineering & System Ownership:

  • Lead end-to-end mechanical design of automation equipment including concept development, feasibility studies, detailed engineering, prototyping, and commissioning. Develop robust machine designs using GD&T (ISO 1101/ASME Y14.5), tolerance stack-up analysis, kinematics, linkage design, and structural calculations. Apply sound machine design principles covering power transmission, bearing selection, actuators, motion control mechanisms, and reliability considerations.
  • Oversee projects from initial site survey and requirement gathering through design to drawings to fabrication, internal assembly, and final factory commissioning.

Technical Procurement & Vendor Management: 

  • Evaluate and audit external fabrication vendors. Manage technical queries (TQs), review quotes, and ensure manufactured components meet stringent engineering specifications.

Standardization & Strategy:

  • Develop and manage global Bills of Materials (BOMs). Drive component standardization and supplier selection strategies to ensure scalability.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure all equipment meets global safety standards (CE, ISO 13849, EU Machinery Directive). Perform & Lead DFMEA/PFMEA sessions to mitigate operational risks.

 

Our requirements

Mechanical Design Mastery:

  • Expert proficiency in SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIA for 3D modeling, motion simulation, and detailed engineering documentation.

Advanced Kinematics:

  • Deep understanding of linkages, cam profiles, indexing tables, and high-speed conveyor system design. 

Engineering Analytics:

  • Proficient in calculating torque requirements, inertia matching for servos, and structural deflection using FEA (Finite Element Analysis).

Mechatronics Integration:

  • Expertise in pneumatic system design (ISO-standard circuits, manifolds) and the ability to collaborate with PLC programmers on sensor logic and I/O mapping.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM):

  • Advanced knowledge of fabrication processes (CNC, Laser/Waterjet, Sheet Metal) to optimize design for cost and lead time.
  • Hands-on experience in designing ISO-standard pneumatic systems, including FRL units, valve manifolds, actuators, and motion control mechanisms.
  • Ensure automation equipment complies with global machinery safety standards and regulatory requirements including:
  •  EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC).
  •  CE Marking Requirements.
  • ISO 12100 – Machinery Safety & Risk Assessment.
  • ISO 13849 – Functional Safety of Control Systems.
  • ISO 10218 – Industrial Robot Safety.
  • EN 60204-1 – Electrical Safety of Machinery.

Additional information:

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Strong ability to work with Production, Quality, and MES teams to ensure Industrial Automation projects integrate seamlessly with existing factory ecosystems. This role serves as a foundational lead position with the intent to build internal Automation solutions.

Work Location & Working Conditions:

  • KK Factory, Dabaspete. A Hybrid work model with a requirement for occasional travel to global manufacturing sites for equipment commissioning and vendor audits.

Educational Qualification Required:

  • B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Production Engineering.

Relevant Experience Required:

  • 8 to 13 Years in Automation Machine Design

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Machine Design, GD&T, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Project Management, Technical Sourcing, DFMEA.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Professional CAD Certification (e.g., CSWP).
  • Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE) or equivalent.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required for global stakeholder collaboration
