Vacancy description

System Manager, Energy Management Systems (EMS) & Hybrid Power Plant Controller (HPPC)

Lead the intelligence behind tomorrow’s energy systems

Are you passionate about shaping how complex energy assets think, respond, and perform?

Do you thrive at the intersection of control systems, grid integration, and real-world impact?

Highlights of the offer

  • Job offer expiration: 01/07/2026
  • Type of work: Hybrid
  • Role: Individual Contributor / Specialist
  • Location: Europe, Denmark

Responsibilities

Serve as the overall system‑responsible owner for EMS and HPPC features, performance, control architecture, and compliance.

Define the concept and system architecture of EMS and HPPC, focusing on:

  • Plant‑level and asset‑level control strategies
  • Dispatch logic, scheduling, and operational modes
  • Dynamic control of hybrid plants (BESS + PV + WTG)
  • Interaction with grid, customer SCADA, and energy trading platforms

Specify, scope, and prioritize control and functional requirements for software development teams.

Ensure EMS delivers:

  • SoC/SOH‑aware energy management
  • Power/energy scheduling and dispatch
  • Market participation logic
  • Customer‑specific control modes and operational strategies

Ensure HPPC delivers:

  • Hybrid plant coordination and active/reactive power control
  • Grid support functions: voltage control, frequency response, synthetic inertia, FRT
  • Compliance with European and national grid codes for hybrid systems

Use simulation tools (primarily MATLAB/Simulink, optionally PowerFactory or PSCAD) to:

  • Validate control concepts
  • Analyze dynamic system behavior
  • Evaluate compliance with dynamic grid requirements
  • Support controller optimization and edge‑case behavior

Collaborate with power electronics, software, and grid‑connection teams to align control behavior across the plant.
Participate in customer development projects to clarify requirements and define optional/custom EMS/HPPC functionality.
Support pre‑sales and quotation phases

Our requirements

Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Automation, or similar.

Strong understanding of:

  • Control system design for grid‑connected assets
  • EMS control, scheduling, and dispatch logic
  • Hybrid power plant control (PV + WTG + BESS)
  • Dynamic grid behavior and response requirements

Proficiency with control‑focused simulation tools:

  • MATLAB/Simulink (primary requirement)
  • Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar tools is beneficial

Solid understanding of grid codes relevant to control behavior:

  • ENTSO‑E NC RfG
  • National TSO/DSO requirements

Experience writing functional specifications and translating them into software development requirements.

Nice‑to‑haves

Experience with grid‑forming or advanced inverter controls.

Familiarity with hybrid plant operational strategies and market‑driven control modes.

Understanding of communication protocols used in EMS and HPPC (Modbus, IEC 61850, OPC UA).

Experience working with customers, utilities, or technical certification bodies.

Location

This role can be based in our offices in Ikast or Hammel, with flexibility for hybrid work.
